Parole Board
"The Parole Board is an independent body that protects the public by making risk assessments about prisoners to decide who may safely be released into the community and must remain in or be returned to custody." (quotation from Parole Board website) [Need to update this page.]
Mental health streamlining pilot
The following information was provided by Laura Janes to the MHLA Conference on 15/11/24. This pilot began in 2021, involving a truncated timetable and pool of specialist members for Parole Board hearings following a Mental Health Tribunal hearing. From 1/11/21 to August 2023, 33 of the 35 cases which concluded directed release (a rate of 94%, compared with the normal 25%). The pilot continued as "business as usual" on 1/6/24 when 20 members with a MHT or psychology/psychiatry background were appointed to the "mental health cohort". New guidance is expected shortly.
