The Mental Health Act 1983 refers to the "appropriate tribunal". Where there is no need to distinguish between the English and Welsh organisations, this site will continue to refer to the "MHT" as if it were a single entity.

On 3/11/08 the Mental Health Review Tribunal system changed. For further details click on the relevant link below:

  • Mental Health Tribunal - In England, the MHRT became part of the Health, Education and Social Care chamber of the new First-tier Tribunal, calling itself the "First-tier Tribunal (Mental Health)". On this website it will generally be called the the Mental Health Tribunal.
