Court of Protection lawyer - ODonnells Solicitors, Preston

We are a small practice but we punch above our weight. We do this by aiming to be the best, not the biggest or covering the most categories of law. Our specialism is mental health and mental capacity law. To learn more about us, visit where you will be able to get a feel for who we are along with details of our notable cases.

We must stress that we are very busy and we expect high standards but if you have the vocation to specialise in Court of Protection work, have confidence in your ability and want to make your mark in a firm at the leading edge of developments, we would like to hear from you.

If you have a following it helps but is not essential as we have ample leads. Most important is a business sense to exploit our excellent reputation. Salary will be discussed with you at interview. Although based in Preston there is significant scope for remote working. This is a key appointment for us with early partnership prospects for the right person.

[EXPIRED] Mental health and mental capacity fee earner - ODonnells Solicitors, Preston

We specialise in mental health and mental capacity law covering the Court of Protection and Mental Health Tribunals and have been at the forefront in developing the law on deprivation of liberty in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. Our reputation is excellent. Our client satisfaction is high.

The person

We are looking for a suitably experienced fee earner (solicitor/legal executive) who knows that hard work is needed to survive in business. Dedication to breaking the stigma of mental disorder and to protect the rights of the vulnerable is essential. Membership of the MH Panel is considered useful, but not essential.

Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills are required. The law is complex and we are extremely busy but the professional rewards are enormous if you share our vocation.

We have no lifts in our building, the stairs are relatively narrow and the nearest car park is 100 yards away. Considerable travel will be involved throughout the North of England to residences in the community, courts and hospitals (including secure units). It follows that a degree of mobility is needed but we do not discriminate in any way whatever. If you are the best person for our clients, we want to hear from you.

The job

The focus is on the experience of clients, not the status of the staff. We have a growing caseload of Court of Protection welfare work which will require the right attitude, aptitude and ability.

This is a position for a fee earner with existing experience but we will build on your skills. The pace of progress is up to you. Salary is negotiable depending on experience.

Will be at our office in Preston. Reasonable travelling expenses will be re-imbursed.

Application by Friday 14th November.

By email to, marked for the attention of Debbie Lawton. Please attach your CV and say where you would like to be professionally in 3 years' time. Please quote reference MHLO.
